Just when things seem to be going well... when for me, both my personal and lack of professional life are headed in the right direction, the evil hand of death comes and mercilessly grabs those that we love, much before their time. Yes, in mysterious circumstances not unlike who shot J.R. Ewing, Brett's hamster Izefia ended up dead in our alley on Sunday. I would counsider writing a tender eulogy about how much Izefia meant to me and how her death symbolizes the sadness associated with ending a chapter in my life at 562 W. Chestnut, but let's face it, she was an f'n hamster. And she never smelled that great either. So here's an IM conversation.

BJNadan: she escaped while I wasn't here and I thought, Oh, she'll turn up

BJNadan: and I went outside to take out the trash and she was lying paws up in the alleyway
BJNadan: How she made it outside, I don't know
BJNadan: It was sad. she was soo stiff
MattyWeav: AWWW, BRETTY!
MattyWeav: I wish I could've been there
MattyWeav: are you sure it was her?
BJNadan: I'll miss the little critter. Yes
MattyWeav: what is it with our neighborhood and dead, frozen hampsters?!
MattyWeav: when will this madness end!
MattyWeav: and can you ever wear your dead hamster t-shirt again?
MattyWeav: should one of us call sarah?
BJNadan: I think I'll email sarah
BJNadan: and I wore that shirt the day she died
BJNadan: I'm riddled with guilt
MattyWeav: HAHAHA
BJNadan: I didn't want her to imitate the shirt
MattyWeav: i mean, that's horrible
BJNadan: it is horrible
BJNadan: and hysterical
BJNadan: plus I just cleaned her freaking house
MattyWeav: what'd you do with her?
MattyWeav: let's mail her corpse to beth
BJNadan: um, I threw her in the trash
BJNadan: no
BJNadan: she's had enough pain
MattyWeav: i will light a candle for her at mass
BJNadan: Thanks. Let's remember her on this memorial day
MattyWeav: did she know jesus?
BJNadan: I'm not sure
BJNadan: Let's say yes
MattyWeav: are you getting another?
BJNadan: I'm not sure
MattyWeav: WHAT ABOUT A HAIRLESS RAT?!
BJNadan: I don't know if she could be replaced. BUT I'm tempted...
